Fasting is not a Christian diet - it is a form of physical prayer.
You can fast from food, TV, alcohol...anything that separates
you from God.  You don't need to wait until Lent to deny
yourself indulgences that take you away from our Lord,
try fasting from something tomorrow and see how you do.

I just reading about the poverty of loneliness.  It made me think
of how often I walk with a smile on my face during the day.  I
might be at Wal-Mart or the grocery store or post office.  More
often than not others who are approaching me will smile back
at me.  Then I might say "Good Morning" or "How are you?"
This may be the only interaction that they will have with another
person all day and it should be a wonderful one.  Try it
tomorrow and see how it works.  It is a small gesture of
God's Love to one another.

I've been reading a lot about meditation recently and just
gave the lecture to my friend about the importance of
listening for the "small, still voice of God".  I never knew
until a few years ago what that meant because it means
you need to be quiet to hear it and I was too busy
praying and telling God what I needed done.  If
you are very, very still and empty thoughts from your
head, God will reveal what He needs done from you.
It is scary and awesome and a huge responsibility
but remember that He will equip you with all of the
skills you need to do His work.  You just need to
be quiet and that is really a learned behavior especially
in the busy world we live in.  Give it a try, you'll never
know until you do how you can truly serve the Lord.
Have a very Blessed (quiet) day.

We who take access to words for granted should pause to be grateful
to those who preserved the Gospel words so carefully and spread them
to the utmost bounds of the world without benefit of the printing press
or instantaneous media.

I found these words in the daily readings of the book "Magnificat".  Please
read it again and imagine how they did that!  In the secular world we
rarely go any amount of time before checking our electronics for some
reason.  How these stories, parables and words from our Lord have
continued for thousands of years is truly a Gift from God.
